Stuart Munro: 1971 Bay Window tin top.
Tell us a bit about your bay.
It's a 1971 UK right hand drive model converted
kombi by Devon and has a Devon Weekender
interior, which is all original.
Do you have any plans for your bus?
To finish renovating the interior and turbo charge
the 1671cc motor with a scratch built system.
Why did you choose your bay window?
I have always loved VW buses and about 13
years ago it was all I could afford at the time,
and probably still is..! They are versatile,
reliable and simplistic in design, oh and they
are great fun.
Claude Buisan: 1960 Kombi
Tell us about your vehicles and how you got
into VW's?
Everything started for me sitting on the school
bench back in France in 1991. One of my
mates was reading the French Super Magazine
No.10. I asked if I could borrow it, and I have
been in love with the VW scene ever since. A year
later with my driving licence in the bag, I arrived
home with my dad and a 1974 1200cc Beetle.

Claude's 1974 Beetle
You should have seen my mum's face when
she saw the car. You should have seen my
face when I saw the rust! It took 2 years to
restore it, and every single nut and bolt was
removed. I then built an 1875cc engine for it.
I still have the Beetle back in France.
I then bought a 1961 Kombi split 11 window
for £300. I was motivated to restore it, but I
had to do my military service and after that
I moved to the U.K. So my enthusiasm
stopped for a few years.

Claude's 1976 ex army 181 Trekker.
In 2007 I decided it was time to get another
Kombi, knowing I would not have time to
restore the one in France. I wanted one with
small window, high hinges, bullet indicators
and small rear lights. After a few months I
found my 'Tesoro' bus, a 1960 Kombi split.
When I saw it I loved it straight away and
bought it without even test driving it. I have
since slammed it, with narrow beam, with disc
brakes a new gearbox and straight axle. I ran
the original motor but 2 years ago I started to
build my new one. A 1641cc with twin
Dellorto carbs and Scat C35 cam.
In the meantime my friend in France was
pestering me to buy my 1961 Kombi, so after
a few years we decided to do a deal. He had
an 1976 ex army 181 Trekker, So we did a
straight swap, no money involved so I have
another VW for my collection.

Dave Clark: 1969 Microbus.
Tell us why you chose your bay?
Having had my '67 Beetle written off, I decided
I wanted a bay window,this California import
came up for sale and as it was so solid, I
just couldn't resist buying it.!
Why do you like VW's?
They are such fun to drive, there is a great
VW community and other VW drivers always
acknowledge you and they are so simple to
work on.
Do you have any future plans for your bus?
I intend to replace the headlining with birch
ply headlining at some point but apart from that
no, just keep her on the road and enjoy her.

Matthew White: 1969 Westfalia.
Tell us a bit about your 'Westy' and why you
chose it?
We have only owned the Westy for 2 months.
The van came from the states where it only
had one previous owner before coming to
the U.K. I chose this one because it was so
solid and straight, plus after 18 months of
looking for a bus it was time to take the plunge.
Do you have any future plans for the bay?
Paint, and many other things... the list is getting
longer and longer !
Why do you like Volkswagens?
Reliability is so tedious.!!
When your not out in your bay, what do you like
to do?
I work as a sales engineer for an air conditioning
company, but most things seem to work or bus
fun.!

James Butler: Beetle.

Helen Butler: 1974 Beetle.

Sean: Bay Window.

Adrian Bright: 1978 Fire Bus.
Tell us a bit about your Fire Bus.
I've owned the bus for 7 years now, it's a 1978
late bay which used to be used as a youth fire
service vehicle at the Munchenburg Fire
Station in Germany before being imported to
the U.K. It used to be bright yellow and still has
the blue light, two tone siren and vinyl's. I
originally bought it for Glastonbury, where it
promptly broke down outside the gates!
Do you have any plans for your bus?
It's had 2 new heads, new front wheel arches, rear
quarters and cargo floor, so all that's left is to
get it lowered and get some nice wheels on it.
Why did you choose your fire bus?
I wanted a traditional Devon, but the wife wanted
something different that stood out!! I like the sound
of the air-cooled engine, and the vdub people seem
to be chilled and family orientated.
Ellie Munro: 1996 Mk 3 golf. (Nitro Nancy)
Does your Mk3 Golf have any modifications?
She has adjustable suspension, multi spoke
alloy wheels, xenon headlights, spoiler and a
double bore exhaust.
Why did you choose this particular Golf?
Because she's beautiful.!
How did you get into VW's?
My love for VW's comes from my dad who has a
'71 Bay and has just sold his '67 Beetle, so I have
grown up with various VW's all my life.
When your not driving nitro nancy what do you
like to do?
I work as an Admin assistant for a grounds
maintenance company, and like to go
horse riding whenever possible.

Tim Carter: T25 Westfalia

Andy Martin: Split Screen panel van.

Gavin S. Downs: Baja Bug.
